Building Sable Audio Online: Inside the Artist Hub

When we talk about building Sable Audio, it's easy to picture rehearsal rooms, recording studios and eventually a larger physical space.

But some of what we're building doesn't need to wait for a new building.

###The Sable Audio Artist Hub is already here.

Avery has built the website to be more than a place to learn about Sable Audio or book a room. It's becoming an online home where musicians can create profiles, discover other artists, share what they're doing and connect with the local music community.

And we want everyone to know something important:

#You do not have to record with us, rehearse with us or be part of a Sable Audio band to join.

This is for the music community.

Put Yourself on the Map

Musicians can create their own Artist Hub profiles with a bio, music, links and information about themselves.

That might seem simple, but we want the Artist Directory to become a genuine way to discover who's making music around Halifax and beyond.

Maybe you're a drummer looking for another project.

Maybe you're a songwriter looking for musicians.

Maybe you play in three bands and want one place connecting people to everything you do.

Or maybe you're just starting out and want to introduce yourself to the community.

Create a profile. Let people know you're here.

Bands Have a Home Too

The Artist Hub isn't limited to individual musicians.

Bands ALSO have their own pages, including information about the project and a lineup that connects back to the individual profiles of the musicians who make up that band. (so create your profile as YOU and list your band in your profile)

That means the community isn't just seeing a band name. They can discover the people behind it, see the other projects they're involved with and start making connections across the local scene.

The more musicians and bands who create profiles, the more useful that network becomes.

Ask Questions. Find People. Share What You Know.

The Artist Hub also includes a community forum.

We want this to become the place you can go when you need a bass player for a new project, you're looking for a piece of used gear, you have a question about recording, you're trying to figure out something about gigging, or you've learned something that might save another musician a headache.

Musicians have an enormous amount of knowledge between us.

Instead of everyone figuring everything out alone, why not give people somewhere to share it?

Looking for bandmates? Post it.

Looking for gear? Ask.

Have some advice? Share it.

Need advice? Ask for it.

The value of the forum will come from musicians actually using it, so we want people to make it their own.

Put Your Shows on the Calendar

There's also a community Events Calendar where artists can submit their own events.

And again, they don't have to be Sable Audio events.

• Hosting an open mic?
• Having an album release?
• Holding a listening party?

Put it on the calendar.

We want someone to be able to visit the Artist Hub and see what's happening in the music community, not just what's happening at Sable Audio.

Because one of the simplest ways musicians can support each other is by showing up.

• Go see the band you've never heard before.
• Check out somebody's release show.
• Support the open jam.
• Bring a friend.
• Share another artist's event.

A strong music community isn't built by everyone promoting themselves in isolation. It's built when musicians start paying attention to what everyone else is creating too.

This Is Bigger Than Our Rooms

Of course we want Sable Audio to grow.

We want more rehearsal rooms. We want to expand our recording services. We want to build spaces where musicians can create together.

But the community around Sable Audio doesn't need to stop at our front door.

That's why we're building the Artist Hub alongside the physical business.

And soon (tomorrow?), we're taking another step with the Sable Audio app, bringing these tools and connections together in a way musicians can carry with them.

The long-term goal is simple:

Make it easier for musicians to find each other.

Find the drummer.

Find the show.

Find the gear.

Find the advice.

Find the band.

Find the people who will show up when you finally get onstage.

If you're a musician, band or artist in our community, we want you in the Artist Hub.

Not because you owe Sable Audio anything.

Not because you have to rehearse here.

Not because you have to record here.

Because you're part of the music community, and that's enough.

Create your profile. Add your band. Post your next show. Start a conversation. Answer somebody else's question. Discover another artist.

The more of us who participate, the more useful this becomes for everyone.

Sable Audio may be building the platform.

But the artists are what will make it a hub.
