Artist First, Band Second: How to Set Up Your Sable Audio Artist Hub Profile
We've noticed a little confusion popping up as more musicians join the Sable Audio Artist Hub, so let's clear up one important thing:
Your Artist profile is for YOU, not your band.
Even if you're primarily known as a member of a band, every musician starts by creating their own individual Artist profile.
Your band page comes after.
Why? Because the Artist Hub is designed around musicians as individuals. You might play guitar in one band, drums in another, fill in for a third, leave your current band, start a new project next year or simply want to connect with other musicians.
Your Artist profile stays yours through all of it.
Step 1: Create Your Artist Profile
When you join the Artist Hub, start by creating an Artist profile for yourself.
Use the name you're commonly known by in the music community. That might be your full name, a shortened version of your name, a nickname or the stage name you actually perform under.
The important part is that when another musician sees your profile, they know who you are.
This is not where your band name goes. Not your gamertag either.
If Jane Smith plays bass in The Extremely Loud Raccoons, her Artist profile should be Jane Smith, not The Extremely Loud Raccoons or Doodlebug638
The raccoons get their turn later.
Step 2: Tell Us What You Do
Next, fill out what you actually do as a musician.
Vocals? Add it.
Guitar? Add it.
Drums, bass, keys or multiple instruments? Tell us.
Your profile is your opportunity to show the community what you bring to the table. This becomes especially useful as the Artist Hub grows and musicians use it to discover other people in the scene.
And don't forget your profile picture.
It doesn't need to be an elaborate professional photoshoot. Just choose a photo that represents you and helps other people recognize the human being behind the profile.
Step 3: THEN Create Your Band
Once your individual Artist profile is set up, that's when you create your band profile.
Band profiles are created from within an Artist profile.
This is important because the Artist Hub is designed so that a band isn't represented by one person pretending to be the entire band.
Instead, the band has its own page and the individual musicians who make up that band can join its lineup using their own Artist profiles.
So if your band has five members, we want to eventually see five Artist profiles connected together through one Band profile. (This will also allow for utilization of features we are still bringing to the hub)
That lets someone discover the band and then actually see the musicians behind it.
It also means your Artist profile can be connected to multiple projects if you're one of the many Halifax musicians who apparently considers being in only one band far too relaxing.
Think of It This Way
The easiest way to remember the difference is:
Artist Profile = YOU
Band Profile = THE GROUP
Create yourself first.
Then create your band.
Then invite your bandmates to join the lineup with their own Artist profiles.
This structure is intentional. We're building the Artist Hub to reflect how our music community actually works. Musicians move between projects, collaborate with each other, start new bands and sometimes play in several projects at once.
The person is the constant.
The bands connect around them.
Already Made Your Band as Your Artist Profile?
You're definitely not the only one.
We've seen enough people do it that we're writing an entire blog post about it, so don't panic. You can go into your dashboard and change your name at anytime!
But going forward, when you're setting yourself up on the Sable Audio Artist Hub, remember the order:
Create your individual Artist profile first.
Add your name, what you do and a profile picture.
Then create your Band profile from inside your Artist profile and get the rest of your bandmates to join you.
The more musicians who build out their individual profiles and connect themselves to their bands, the more useful the Artist Hub becomes for everyone.
So come introduce us to you.
We'll meet your band next.
